SCTA Training & Education

The education workgroup conducts statewide education, training, and promotion to providers and the public to accelerate and spread adoption of telehealth. The workgroup strives to provide relevant cutting-edge training and education for providers using telehealth technologies to care for their patients, as well as those who are receivers of telehealth services in different settings, including community hospitals, primary care and specialty offices, schools, skilled nursing facilities, and prisons. Palmetto Care Connections and South Carolina AHEC serve as co-leads for the education work group.

South Carolina AHEC

The South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium (AHEC) offers telehealth education opportunities to health professions students and health professionals. As part of South Carolina AHEC's efforts to address the training and maldistribution of health professionals in rural and underserved areas of the state, its telehealth education programs enable providers to implement telehealth services and health professions students to enter the workforce prepared to adopt telehealth, therefore expanding healthcare access to the areas that need it the most.

South Carolina AHEC offers on-ground, distance and on-demand educational opportunities for training through its four regional AHEC centers and online learning portal. South Carolina AHEC also partners with other SCTA members to expand the reach of educational programming statewide.

Project Echo Telementoring

The SCTA is leading a statewide Project ECHO telementoring initiative as well as providing comprehensive training and education on topics that span all facets of telehealth. Some of the educational resources cover workflows, protocols, billing, certification, and licensing.
