Outpatient Telehealth Program

The Outpatient Telehealth Program is a way to conveniently connect patients with specialty care physicians across South Carolina.

  • The patient simply visits their doctor's office, and if specialty care is needed, their provider can refer the patient for a specialty tele-visit.
  • On the day of the appointment, the patient returns to the doctor's office at the scheduled time and speaks with the specialty provider over a high-definition video call.
  • The specialist and the patient's regular provider will work together to determine the best treatment for the patient.

Advantages for Providers

The Outpatient Telehealth Program allows both the specialty and primary care provider to coordinate a detailed patient care plan, all while keeping the patient in-house with their regular provider. Specialists will also enjoy the ability to easily recruit new patients with improved follow-up compliance.

Advantages for Patients

Outpatient Telehealth visits are convenient for patients, saving travel time, gas mileage, and childcare expenses. The patient is able to remain in their community while accessing necessary specialty care.

The SCTA is excited to partner with ReferWell and expand access to specialty care across South Carolina through streamlined referrals and eConsults!

  • The SCTA offers a simple way for providers to connect directly with SC specialists to discuss care for the patient.
  • A provider simply requests an eConsult from a participating specialist using the ReferWell platform, asking a specific question regarding the patient's care. The requesting provider can also upload any labs or images that the consulting specialist might find helpful.
  • Participating specialists can offer advice on next steps of the care journey, expert guidance on solving cases locally, or help in avoiding unnecessary patient visits.
  • Responses to eConsult requests are guaranteed within two business days.
